Luol Deng’s name has come up a number of times during free agency as an option for the Heat. According to various news reports he is very high on Miami’s wish list and Pat Riley has already reached out to him at the on-set of free agency which started at midnight last night.
You can see that on his career, he has been a a high quality player, with a few bad seasons scattered throughout. However, as of late, Deng has been consistently good and with important contributions. Who could forget the 3pt clinic he put on against us earlier this year?
Last season his shooting was improved from within the arc from the year before, but, his 3pt shooting could definitely be improved. He was first with the Bulls and then traded to the Cavs, which, probably messed him up a little bit and having more open shots within our system could probably benefit his shooting percentages.
Deng has won a number of awards, been apart of the Olympic team, and has been a consistent all around contributor with tough defense. His perimeter defense is something we especially could use since that has been a weak spot just about every year since 2010.
All this depends on what we would offer him, which, considering our situation is probably less than the 10M he could command from another team. But, does he want to win or take the money? Something a lot of guys will be asking this summer.
