Fueled by last week’s convincing win against VaTech plus the honoring of Jim Kelly, the Canes came out with one goal in mind: getting another all around great win. They did so, emphatically, becoming bowl eligible in the process and setting up a great race in the ACC Coastal. But before that, let’s reflect on the UNC game:
1. Duke is Duke
Not much more can be said of Duke Johnson. With another impressive 100+ yard, 2 TD outing on Saturday, Duke is quietly but effectively moving up the ranks as a potential Heisman contender. Better than saying anything, let’s see him in action…
2. A Revamped Defense
The much maligned Canes defense shined on again on Saturday forcing dropped balls and punts throughout the game while all of a sudden finding new confidence in their blitz schemes. And led by Denzel Perryman, this defense is coming together at the best time possible. Don’t know who Denzel Perryman is? Let me introduce him to you:
3. Consistency an Issue
While a brilliant game, there is much concern as to whether this rhythm can hold up for the Canes moving forward. What team appears against FSU will largely depend on the coaches’ play-calling. Nevertheless, the offense led by Kaaya, Duke, and Dorsett as well as a more concentrated defense makes for an exciting late season push for the Canes.
4. Kelly Tough: The Motivation
If anything, this team has rallied around great motivations this season. Saturday it was Jim Kelly whose presence at Homecoming was both gratifying and inspiring. Undoubtedly, having him there in addition to Russell Maryland and Jerome Brown being inducted into the UM Ring of Honor made a great impact on this team’s mentality and focus…
5. The Coastal Division is Still Up for Grabs
The Coastal division is far from decided. With the Canes a win back from top spot and owning a tie-breaker with Duke, should the Canes win at least two of their last three, they will surely set up another showdown with those hated Tallahassee rivals besides the one coming in a week and a half.
