The Miami Heat may be struggling to secure wins this season but when we look on the bright side, we’ve got Whiteside. The 25 year-old center has been making waves on and off the court as he’s essentially emerged from the depths of irrelevancy to becoming one of the NBA’s premiere big men. He leads the league in blocks per 48 minutes and currently holds the 3rd highest PER ranking in the NBA, one spot ahead of Kevin Durant. Hassan is the sign of a very bright future for a Miami Heat team that is fighting to remain in the playoff picture.
Recently, the brash young big man had a few choice words for the self-proclaimed “King” when reporters asked him about having to guard Lebron James in their upcoming tilt…
“LeBron’s a good player,” Whiteside said. “I never really played too much against him. I’m not guarding him. Somebody else is pretty much guarding him. I just meet him at the rim.”
Most young players speak only in terms of awe and admiration when commenting on the league’s best, but Whiteside doesn’t seem like a guy who is scared of anyone and he is more than ready for the challenge.
Here is how Lebron responded to the not-so-gracious “praise” by Whiteside
Since then, Whiteside has been mostly mum towards the media when asked about this miniature war of words. Actions speak louder than words and it looks like he plans to allow his play to do the talking for him.
Tune in tonight and watch the Heat take on the Cavs in Cleveland and witness the showdown for yourself. The last time these two teams faced off, your Miami Heat came away with a win. Let’s see if we can reciprocate that success tonight at 8:00pm.
